For AI assistants
Use Snake Finder in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants
Snake Finder runs a free MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Connect it to your assistant and it can answer questions about the snakes near you from the same verified records as this site, with a link back to the page for every answer. No account, no API key.
Server URL
Streamable HTTP, read-only, no authentication:
https://snakefinder.com/mcp
The four tools
find_snakes
The snakes recorded in a U.S. county, U.S. state, Canadian province or division, or any country, venomous species first. The same lists as our place pages.
Try: “What venomous snakes live in Travis County, Texas?”
get_snake
One species by common or scientific name: venom status, identification marks, look-alikes and how to tell them apart, habitat, and what to do if bitten.
Try: “Is a hognose snake venomous?”
compare_snakes
How to tell two snakes apart, with a quick field tell and feature-by-feature differences where we have a written comparison.
Try: “How do I tell a copperhead from a corn snake?”
snake_season
When snakes are active in a U.S. state, Canadian province or country, month by month, from verified sightings.
Try: “When is snake season in Arizona?”

Other MCP clients
Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and most other clients that support remote servers take a config like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"snakefinder": {
"url": "https://snakefinder.com/mcp"
}
}
}Good to know
Species lists and counts match our place pages and are built with the method on our methodology page. Records are never complete: a species missing from a list can still turn up.
Answers are for identification awareness and education, not medical advice, and an assistant cannot confirm an identification from a description or photo. Keep your distance from any snake you are unsure of. Anyone bitten should get emergency care: in the U.S., call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
