Snake FinderField Guide · Worldwide

For publishers

Add a snake guide to your website

A free box that lists the snakes recorded in any U.S. county or state and any Canadian province, with the venomous species first, their photos, and what to do if someone is bitten. Pick a place, copy two lines of code, and paste them into your page.

Who it is for

Newsrooms

Running a spring snake season story or a bite report? Drop in the box for your county so readers can see which snakes actually live nearby.

Parks and nature centers

Add it to trail, camping, or visitor pages so guests know which venomous snakes to watch for before they head out.

Schools and extension offices

A ready-made local species list for science classes, 4-H, master naturalist programs, and county extension pages.

Pest and wildlife pros

Show customers the species in your service area and what to do if they are bitten, without writing it yourself.

Good to know

You can place more than one box on a page, for example a county and its state. Load the script once and add a snakefinder-widget div for each place.

The species list updates on its own when our data does, so a story published this spring stays correct next spring. Counts match the county or state page, built with the method on our methodology page.

The box is for identification and awareness only. It is not medical advice: anyone bitten should call 911 or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
